Devotionals to Prepare for Christmas
Our desire as a church is that everyone we encounter is on the journey of Knowing Jesus, Growing in Him, and Going out into the community in His name!  To help you and your families prepare in advance for the wonderful season of Advent, we’ve put together a few devotional options for you to invest in now to ensure you are ready for the beginning of Advent.  Below is a short summary sheet of different devotional options you might want to try this year as an individual or for your whole family!
Mike Borg - Worship Director
Come Let Us Adore Him - by Paul David Tripp
Devotional for individuals for families, about 5-10 minutes worth each day, includes further study of Scripture for families to go deeper - 31 readings for the days of December.

“The wonder and awe of the Christmas season can easily get overshadowed by lights, tinsel, bows, and paper?not to mention last-minute trips to the mall and visits to the in-laws. In all the hustle and bustle, we often lose sight of what’s most important. This book of daily readings for the month of December by best-selling author Paul David Tripp will help you slow down, prepare your heart, and focus on what matters most: adoring our Savior, Jesus.”
The Advent of the Lamb of God  - by Russ Ramsey
This is a narrative story with opening Scripture passages each day.  For individuals or families, takes about 10 minutes a day. Includes creative writing with 25 readings for the first 25 days of December.

"A page in history was about to turn. Though Israel's world was in the throes of upheaval, it was only a matter of time before the sun of righteousness would rise. These people needed rescue, but they weren't waiting for the stars to align or for the political climate to change. They were waiting for God. They were on his timetable. He was sending his Messiah?Immanuel, God with us." For centuries God's people awaited the coming of a Savior. In the midst of a world of trouble, they hoped for one who would deliver them from evil and restore them to true life. Would God be faithful to his promises? Pastor Russ Ramsey narrates anew the greatest story ever told?the true tall tale of the coming of the Christ. It's more than the story of a baby born in Bethlehem; the story encompasses the whole of the Old Testament and all of human history, unveiling God's long-suffering, loving pursuit of his people. Rediscover how the purposes of God culminated in the coming of Jesus, in twenty-five readings ideal for Christmas or any season of meeting the Savior. Also including The Passion of the King of Glory and The Mission of the Body of Christ, the Retelling the Story series explores the narrative arc of the Bible from Genesis through Revelation in compelling language that is faithful to the text of Scripture. The stories are told afresh to help readers hide God's word in their hearts by way of their imaginations.”
The Dawning of Indestructible Joy - by John Piper
These 25 brief (2 minutes) devotional readings from John Piper begin on December 1 and carry us to Christmas Day. Our hope is that God would use these meditations to deepen and sweeten your adoration of Jesus and help you keep him at the center of your Christmas season.
The Advent Jesse Tree  - by Dean Meador Lambert
Interactive Devotional for Families - my own family did this last year and we loved it! It took us about 10 minutes each day, but there was some preparation work to be done ahead of time. If you or your kids love crafts this is the journey for you!

“Bring Christ back to Christmas by giving your children a devotional experience that adorns your tree with Christian symbols.  The Advent Jesse Tree offers 25 devotions for each day from December 1st to December 25th, Christmas Day... The day Christians celebrate that God's purpose was finally revealed in the coming of the savior, Jesus Christ. Each devotion traces the heritage of Jesus through the stories and prophecies of the Old Testament. This book enables individuals and families to engage in a more meaningful celebration of the Christmas season. These daily Advent devotions are written in two versions (one for children and one for adults) including a scripture, a story and commentary, questions to ask, a prayer, and a song.
Each devotional story is paired with a representative symbol that traces the heritage of Jesus… Such as a lamb, a dove, a rainbow, a heart, a star, etc. Children and their parents can utilize the symbolic line art printed with each daily devotion to craft meaningful ornaments. These symbols coincide with the prayers, memory verses, questions for children, and songs found in the devotions for that day. Finally, on Christmas day, your tree will be filled with reminders of 25 Bible stories that led up to Christ’s birth.”
