Church Planting
Spreading the gospel through multiplication
Our mission in church planting is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through multiplying churches. Our heart is to plant Free and Living Lutheran congregations in cities and neighborhoods that proclaim the good news of the forgiveness of sins and new life in Christ through His Word.

By God’s grace, Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church (started in 1987) has planted two congregations and is prayerfully preparing for a third plant. If you are not already connected with a congregation in this area, or happen to be traveling through, we encourage you to visit one of them.

Living Word Free Lutheran Church (2002) - Sioux Falls, SD
Shiloh Free Lutheran Church (2013) - Rapid City, SD
Tentative Plant (2017/18) - TBD

Our vision for the next 30 years is to plant, or contribute in a significant manner towards, one new church plant every 5-7 years. By God’s grace, this would result in the establishment of 6-9 new congregations by 2047 (our 60 year anniversary). We are committed to dedicating time, resources, and people to this work of planting Free and Living Lutheran congregations.

Interested in how you can support church planting with Abiding Savior?
Here are four ways to consider:

1. Praying. Pray for Abiding Savior’s counsel and staff leadership as they plan and support current and future church plants. Pray for the raising up of church plant pastors and congregants to be part of launch teams. And pray for our church plants and their congregations.

2. Encouraging. Send a note and/or gift of encouragement to the pastors and leadership carrying out church planting. Share a Scripture with them and let them know you are praying for them. Send them a gift card for dinner or groceries.

3. Giving. As God leads, you may contribute financially towards our church plant fund which is used for church planting (assessing, calling, equipping, and supporting).

4. Going. Prayerfully consider if God is calling you to either permanently move to a church plant (yes, we’re serious!) or join a short term mission trip to assist with outreach events.
