Serving Opportunities at Abiding Savior

Want to be more involved in Abiding Savior?
Listed below are some of the serving opportunities in various ministries that need your support.

If you want to serve, send us a message and let us know what area you're interested in.

Hospitality Ministry
Greeters - We have individuals, couples, and families who are Greeters at both the front door and at the Welcome Center area each week. Our desire is to warmly welcome every person who God draws to our church, let them know we care about them, and answer questions they may have.

Engagement Team (immediate need) – We desire to intentionally connect with guests and those who are not connected with others at Abiding Savior. Those serving on this team seek to introduce themselves to guests, get to know them, answer any questions they might have, and introduce them to others.

Ushers - Ushers assist in handing out bulletins, finding seating for those entering the sanctuary, and helping anyone with any specific needs (i.e. those needing a large print bulletin, hearing devices, physical needs, etc.). They may also assist with the offering and Communion (if they are scheduled for the 1st Sunday of the month).

Cookies & Coffee Crew (immediate need) - Individuals, couples, and Life Groups are all encouraged to serve! Volunteers prepare and set out coffee, cookies, and creamer for the fellowship times and replenish as needed and help clean up afterwards.

Wednesday Evening Meal (immediate need) - this ministry provides individuals and families the opportunity to have a meal at church prior to the Wednesday evening activities. Volunteers involved with this ministry may come to church Wednesday afternoon to help prepare the food, and/or assist Wednesday evening with serving and/or clean up.

Worship Ministries
Celebrate Choir - Celebrate Choir provides an opportunity for the younger members of our church family to actively participate, minister and share their talents in worship through the learning and singing of hymns and other songs. Scriptural truths and foundational principles are hidden in their hearts through music while they learn what it means to be an active part of a church family.

Abiding Savior Choir - Meeting for rehearsal every Wednesday, the Adult choir is open to singers young and old.  This group sings many different styles of music, and they prepare an annual program (usually for the Christmas season), as well as many anthems sung during worship services throughout the year.

The Worship Ministry Team -  a large and growing team of instrumentalists and vocalists who model and facilitate honest worship.  Tech team members are also included (lighting, sound, and projection).

Instrumental Ensemble - If you play an instrument, come join the instrumental ensemble during our worship services. This group likes to gather for special events such as Christmas, Easter, and sometimes members of the ensemble accompany the choir or praise team for Sunday morning worship services.

Communion Preparation - Volunteers helping prep for Communion can either come in on Saturday to help get everything ready for Sunday and/or help fill cups between the services on Sunday morning.

Children's Ministry
Nursery Care (immediate need) - Those involved in the nursery ministry will be scheduled for a one-hour shift at the 11:00 service one Sunday every six months.  Individuals volunteering in the nursery will provide a safe and fun environment for infants and toddlers. They will help with children being checked into and out of the nursery, interacting with them, whether holding, playing with, or reading to them.

Lead Teacher (immediate need) - The Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning and implementation of weekly lessons that will provide each child with an opportunity to learn and grow in faith and to nurture each child so that he or she will experience the love of Christ.

Substitute Teacher (immediate need) - This person will take on all of the responsibilities of the Lead Teacher in his/her absence.  See Lead Teacher description.

Assistant Teacher (immediate need) - The position is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in the implementation of weekly lessons that will provide each child with an opportunity to learn and grow in faith and to nurture each child so that he or she will experience the love of Christ.

Small Group Leader (immediate need) - The Small Group Leader will provide leadership to a group of children on Wednesday evenings.  They will strive to meet ministry goals and assist each child in building a solid foundation for a life of spiritual formation.

Youth & Young Adult
Small Group Leader (immediate need) - Small Group Leaders are responsible for leading a small group of youth on Wednesday evenings at The Gathering in discussion after the lesson and prayer. Small Group Leaders also are around during free time and activities to build relationships with the students. Open to parents and other adults from the congregation.

Prayer Warrior (immediate need) - Come on Wednesday Nights to interact
with the students and be there during the lesson. Then, during Small Group Time, Prayer Warriors meet to pray specifically for the students and Small Group Leaders.

Snack Specialist - Organize people to donate snacks every Wednesday night, and prepare and serve those snacks each week. You also are there to get to know the students, being a friendly face who is willing to listen as kids need someone to share with.

Gym Commander (immediate need) - Supervise and organize the gym activities each Wednesday Night. You are expected to get to know the students who frequent the gym each week, and ensure that all students have an opportunity to participate in a safe and welcoming environment.

Chaperones/Counselors for Special Events (immediate need) - We are always in need of Parents and other adults to attend special events as Chaperones and Counselors. Tasks range from simply driving a van of students to and from an event, all the way to staying with them in dorms all week at camp. Depending on the event, there may be spiritual care that is needed as well, like leading a short devotion and/or talking with a student about matters of faith.

Young Adult Leader - Organize the weekly Bible Study for College Students and Young Adults to build relationships and grow their affection for Christ!

Youth Board Member - Meet every other month to discuss Youth Ministry goals for the Wednesday Night ministry and events, and set course to accomplish those goals.

Care Ministry

Stephen Minister Care Giver - Do you have gifts for caring, encouragement, and listening? If so, please prayerfully consider becoming a Stephen Minister. We will be training another class of Stephen Ministers starting this January. Stephen Ministers provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time, such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or loneliness.

Funeral Assistance - Our Funeral Committee considers it a blessing to serve family members during their time of loss. A group of church volunteers serve a light lunch to the family and friends in our fellowship hall following the Celebration of their loved one. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, serving, clean up and/or baking a cake.

Church Decorating - If you have a creative desire to come alongside our volunteers as we decorate for holidays or special church functions, contact Barb Sivertson and she will put you in contact with our Decorating Committee.
